I am testing a number of sites in southern Marshall/northern Jasper counties (Iowa). My intention is to test each of the 10 sites (or more) at two-week intervals until November or later, depending on the weather this fall. Click here to see the tools and methods I use for collecting and testing water. And visit cleanwaterhub.com to see more about the sites.
I got involved in this because Iowa's water is increasingly unsafe for drinking or recreation, and we're sending that water and its nitrates down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico. It's not just a local problem. This is what happens when you privatize profits and socialize costs. I have to buy water from the Iowa Rural Water Association because the water in my well is not safe to drink. I'm awfully glad IRUA gives me an alternative, but I'd far rather just have safe potable water.
This page is a work in progress, but while I'm organizing the background information on how this happened, I'll leave you with some links to useful information from folks who are striving to collect the data needed to build plans for turning this around. The current State government is not going to do it, so I'll also leave you with a question: Are you registered to vote?
